O’Hare International Airport is the primary airport for the Chicago Metropolitan area. It is located in Chicago’s Far Northwest Side, about 17 miles from the Loop (the city’s central business district). The origins of O’Hare Airport date back to the 1940s, when it was built as part of a manufacturing facility for Douglas C-54 airplanes. By 1949, it had graduated to a full-service airport, and was renamed in honor of American naval aviator Edward O’Hare. O’Hare Airport has, in the past, held the title of the world’s busiest airport. Today, it remains the 6th busiest airport in the world by passenger traffic. It has 4 passenger terminals, and surpasses most major international airports in its number of runways (a total of 8). O’Hare Airport handles both domestic and international flights, totaling to over 200 destinations. It is a hub for international carriers such as American Airlines and United Airlines, as well as regional carriers including Air Choice One, Frontier Airlines and Spirit Airlines. Flying to Chicago?
