Vancouver International Airport (YVR) occupies the greater part of Sea Island in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada. Downtown Vancouver is about 7.5 miles up north. This airport is the second busiest in Canada (by aircraft movement), and features among the top rated airports in the world thanks to state-of-the-art infrastructure and a highly accessible design. The site for the airport was acquired in 1929, and operations began before World War II. A new terminal was added in 1968, and a new runway in 1996. A hub for Air Canada, WestJet and Pacific Coastal Airlines, YVR handles non-stop flights by myriad carriers on a daily basis. It has two terminals, of which the Main Terminal handles domestic and international flights, and the older South Terminal serves select regional airlines and floatplane carriers.
